Has anyone seen the original paper? Is it yet another declaration in “these subspecies should be considered full species because I need more publications in my resume” style, or do they provide nuclear DNA data to support it?

I haven’t seen the paper but every article I’ve seen says the new “species” were separated (solely?) on the basis of facial markings which sounds like a stretch to me

Perhaps I should publish something similar on our species. Imagine the quotation index 🙂

the article is here. Pretty much just split on the basis of facial patterns.

Thanks. There is only one instance of sympatry, and the sample size is small, so we don’t know if there is any hybridization in that area. Which means that at least 3, and possibly all 4, are PSC-only species so far.
Note, however, that the paper was mentioned by BBC, CNN, and pretty much everybody else, so most people will take it as solid science, while in fact all of the paper’s conclusions are premature in absence of nuclear DNA evidence.
