Evening bats & marsh rice rats

A couple of tips:

1. There is a colony of evening bats in one of the two bat houses in Samuel Houston Jones State Park near Lake Charles, Louisiana (the other bat house has Mexican freetails). It’s easy to look into the houses with a flashlight, but there are fire ant colonies underneath, so wear rubber boots. The park is choke-full of armadillos.

2. Marsh rice rats are abundant in Anahuac NWR, Texas. Night drives and walks are allowed. A ranger said there’s been many mink sightings recently.
