RFI Arabian Tahr in Oman

Hi everyone

I am planning to visit the Wadi as Sareen reserve in Oman at the end of the month to look for Arabian Tahr. As there seems to be very little info on either this location or on Arabian Tahr in general, I thought I would ask here if anyone has gone looking for them in Wadi as Sareen or elsewhere in Oman and would be willing to share some tips. A birder has told me that the best I can do is climb the mountain and hope to bump into a few, but chances are slim.

Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Benjamin

Sorry, I can’t help, but please write a trip report after your trip! Good luck.

Hi Benjamin, too late I know but in case you go back I saw one yesterday on Jebel Hafeet in Abu Dhabi. I should get a report done in the next couple of days

Benjamin, again too late I know. I used to know the founder of the Wadi as Sareen reserve who unfortunately passed away last year. You will need special permission from the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, as well as the Police, as the reserve is under strict protection. Like you said, the chances of seeing the tahr are slim, I spent two days there with no luck, but you’re more likely to see Gazelle and several varieties of snake.
