In 1991 I spent a couple of weeks in Tanzania. Couldn't afford to do much mammal watching at the time, though the train from Zambia was held up as we travelled through Tanzania's Selous National Park because a Giraffe was on the tracks. Also saw several Harteebest from the train.

In Zanzibar, Zanzibar Red Colobus and Sykes Monkeys (Cercopithecus albogularis) were pretty easy to find in the Jopani Forest Reserve.

Other People's Trip Reports
Zanzibar 2009: Charles Foley's notes on a site in Zanzibar where Ader's Duiker and - apparently - Blue Duiker, Suni, Zazibar Colobus and Rufous and Black Elephant Shrew are common.

Charles Foley's account of the world's first big mammal day (a 24 hour race to see as many species as possible) in the Serengetti netted a remarkable 42 species. I can let you have Charles's email address if yo'd like to get in touch with him - he knows a good deal about African mammal watching and Tanzania in particular.

Charles has a heap of info on Tanzanian mammals but two species that interest me particularly - Caracals and Striped Hyenas - are reasonably common in the Serengetti, around Nabi Hill and Ndutu lodge. Definitely something to check out if I get to Tanzania again.
