Texas has some rugged country and visiting Big Bend National Park was a long cherished ambition. I saw plenty of roadkill Armadillos - several clutching empty bottles of Lone Star beer -  but couldn't find a live one.

Big Bend National Park, September 1998 – Collared Peccary, White-tailed Deer (race Carminis), probable Merriam’s Kangaroo Rat, Grey Fox. Mountain Lions are seen fairly regularly (but not by me).

Guadalupe Mountains, September 1998 – Texas Antelope Squirrel, Western Pipistrelle (roosting inside Hunter’s Cabin on the McCittrick Canyon Trail).

Lyndon Johnson State Park, September 1998 – Virginia Oppossum, Eastern Fox Squirrel, dipped on the reputedly common Armadillos (yet again).
