Catching Burrowing Bettongs , Barrow Island, Australia

I've been interested in animals since I was a toddler. As this letter to Father Christmas shows, I was keen on building my mammal list even when I was 7, albeit plastic ones for my toy zoo. The sharp eyed will note also a worrying interest in birds, but luckily this faded away. And no, I have no idea why I asked for a bible. I guess I was just playing safe.

It wasn't until I left the UK and spent 1991 in Zambia that I really got into mammal watching. Since then I've lived in Australia, France and now the USA and have spent time watching mammals in

North America - Canada, USA, Mexico

Central and South America - Belize, Costa Rica, Colombia, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, Jamaica, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua.

Europe and the Palearctic - Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, UK, Korea, Spain, Tunisia, Russia, France, China, Japan, Syria, Estonia, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Italy, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco.

Africa - South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, Ethiopia, Namibia, Central African Republic, Kenya, Madagascar.

South and East Asia - India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Borneo, Malaysia, Bhutan, Indonesia inc Sulawesi, Pakistan, Vietnam.

Australasia - Australia, New Zealand, Timor-Leste, New Caledonia.

I've also picked up a few interesting species while I've been in the Middle East and elsewhere. My life list is here. The trip report pages have some more information about what I've seen and where.

Mammalwatching.com is a way to share some of the snippets of mammal watching information I've picked up along the way. I hope over time that others will add to my very limited knowledge.

If you have any comments or suggestions I'd be glad to hear them. Just drop me an email.

Happy mammal watching.

Cheers

Jon
