Which Hyrex

Hi, can anyone tell me which Hyrex I have here. They were all seen last August in Tarangire N.P., Tanzania.

They look like Bush Hyrax (Heterohyrax brucei).

I second vnsankar123. Bush Hyrax (Heterohyrax brucei, also referred to sometimes as Yellow-spotted Rock Hyrax)

I agree with the two previous ids. though the bottom one kind of looks like a Tree Hyrax, but not sure.

The top two are Bush Hyrax. In fact the one at the top is a well known individual called ‘Beswick’. The bottom one is a Southern Tree Hyrax, Dendrohyrax arboreus. Note the white cheeks.

Ha ha .. not only can we ID the species, we can give you the individual’s name. THanks Charles! (I’m in the Dominican Republic and just saw a Solenodon… something I imagine is on your most wanted list?) Jon

        Hi Jon,

Yes the Solenodon definitely on my list, but I get suspicious looks from the missus whenever I suggest the Dominican Republic as the perfect destination for a family holiday….
