Road Cruising Central Washington – May 2025

A two night expedition cruising rural roads around Kittitas, Douglas, and Okanogan counties in search of small rodents. Highlights included WHITE-TAILED JACKRABBIT, WASHINGTON GROUND-SQUIRREL, COLUMBIA PLATEAU POCKET MOUSE, ORD’S KANGAROO RAT, NORTHERN POCKET GOPHER, PRONGHORN, and others. Plus a handful of Northern Pacific Rattlesnakes, Gopher Snakes, and a Western Yellow-bellied Racer. Habitat covered was open grassland and sagebrush steppe with a sprinkle of riparian.
