Borneo – September 2025
I have just returned from a 2 week Naturetrek Trip to Borneo. We had 1 night in Sepilok, 7 nights at Deramakot and 3 nights in Kinabatangan. This was my first time in Borneo so a lot of the mammals seen were new to me.
At our night in Sepilok we saw Philippian Slow Loris, Western Tarsier, Prevost Squirrel and Common Giant Flying Squirrel.
The next 7 nights were spent in Deramakot where we had hoped to get a good view of a clouded leopard. Spoiler, we did not see one!
However we did see an array of other mammals including Pig-tailed macaques, a total of 20 different Bornean Orangutans, Leopard cats, 5 Colugo, Palm Civet, Malay Civet, Banded Civet, Small-toothed Civet, Sambar Deer, Northern Grey Gibbon, Lesser Mousedeer, 2 Marbled Cats, Red Langur, Silver Langur, Flat Headed Cat, Binturong, Thomas’s Flying Squirrel, Plantain Squirrel and Giant Flying Fox.
After the 7 nights at Deramakot we moved to Kinabatangan Wetlands where we saw Pygmy Elephants, 10 group of Proboscis Monkeys and Long Tailed Macaques.
This was an incredible trip where I saw 30 new species of mammals and I guess I will have to return to see that elusive Clouded Leopard.

2 Marbled Cats!! Nice. They are harder to see than Clouded Leopard. Very envious.
