Ursus Expeditions Giant Panda Trek Feb 28 – March 8

Come and explore the remote mountain landscapes in China, focusing on some of the most important remaining habitats for wild pandas, and the endangered snub-nosed monkey!

For this 10-day trek (February 28 – March 8), we will be doing daily hikes through China’s dense bamboo forests and rugged terrain, moving between key panda habitats and elevation zones. The trek is designed to maximize time in the field, learning how pandas use their environment while searching for signs of wild individuals in their natural range.

In addition to pandas, these forests support a rich assemblage of wildlife, including takin, serow, muntjac, pheasants, and a variety of mountain bird species. Throughout the trek, we will focus on panda ecology, conservation challenges, and the broader biodiversity of the region. We will also cover photography skills and bear-tracking skills throughout the trip, letting you leave with an extensive knowledge of the bears and their role in the ecosystem.

The trek will be led by Kevin Andrews, a professional bear guide and photographer, alongside experienced local wildlife guides, ensuring both expert interpretation and safe travel through this remote landscape. All logistics are arranged to allow participants to focus fully on the field experience.

Dates: February 28 – March 8

Price: $3,000 (includes all lodging, meals, and ground transportation).
