Ursus Expeditions Himalayan Bear Expedition

Come join Bear Guide Kevin Andrews into the high-altitude wilderness of the Indian Himalayas, where snow-capped peaks, ancient forests, and rugged valleys are home to both Himalayan Brown Bears and Himalayan Black Bears.

For this 10-day journey (May 20 – May 31, 2026), we begin in Dachigam National Park near Srinagar, known for its broadleaf and coniferous forest habitat where Asiatic (Himalayan) Black Bears can be seen foraging and climbing among oak and fruit trees. From there, we travel to the Dras Valley, one of the world’s most remote and dramatic mountain landscapes, where majestic Himalayan Brown Bears roam alpine meadows and high-elevation valleys.

Throughout the expedition, you will undertake jeep safaris, guided walks, and tracking excursions with seasoned local naturalists and expert guides, maximizing opportunities to observe and photograph both bear species in their natural environments. You will also have the chance to encounter other remarkable wildlife such as Snow Leopards, Himalayan Ibex, foxes, Yellow-throated Martens, and Himalayan Marmots.

Dates: May 20 – May 31, 2026

Price: $5,500 USD (includes lodging, meals, ground transport, guiding, and wildlife excursions) (this price includes a $500 mammalwatching discount!)
