Sun bear vs. „urinal men“ – or: Is it safe to camp in Thailand’s Kaeng Krachan jungle?

I have camped all my life in wilderness areas. I have had bears, leopards, spotted hyenas visiting my camps. But what I heard and saw in three days and one night in Kaeng Krachan is another level: http://www.wilddocu.de/camping-in-the-jungle-of-kaeng-krachan-thailand-is-it-safe/

Hi Ralf. In 2019, Tracey and I were camped at the lower campground in Kaeng Krachan. Because of heavy rain, the staff suggested we sleep in the information kiosk, walled on three sides. I awoke in the middle of the night to the sounds of crashing and banging. Wondering why someone would be moving furniture in the middle of the night, I looked up and saw an elephant’s head just in front of me while it rummaged in the garbage can for chip packets. The elephant moved off, but not before it ran its trunk along the length of an enclosed jungle hammock pitched in the campground. The occupant of the hammock must have awoken with quite a start!

Lucky you, Ian. I imagine quite a few people have exciting stories to tell from there. Perhaps we’ll read more about them here.
