Mongolia Suggestions

Hi Everybody,

I was in Mongolia 26 years ago, but I have the opportunity (time, flights and a friend) to go back, towards the middle of July or the end of August.

Has anybody got suggestions on where to go to find nice cats, big cats and many other photographic opportunities?

Any independent guides and their names would be good.  I prefer to book direct and offer the guides my money directly.

Anybody need an extra couple of bodies to fill a jeep?

All help and suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Adrian
We are in UB on our last night of a very successful and enjoyable mammal and bird tour. We booked our itinerary through Soaring Expeditions, based in UB, and can thoroughly recommend them. Sightings of Snow Leopard and Pallas’s Cat were priorities and we were very successful.
Contact me if you need any more info
    Cheers
    Dave

      Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. I did see them. However, I find their prices ridiculous. Is there a reason why my friend in Mongolia can organize a trip to the same area they travel for 14 days for less than 1/5 of the cost? Does a wildlife guide really cost $4000?

I appreciate that Soaring Expeditions has some expertise in Wildlife, which my friend, a doctor, doesn’t have, but I cannot afford that much.

    Hi Adrian,
In 2018 we had a great time with Tum-Eco Tur. If you read our Report on Mammalwatching (Mongolia 2018 Steve Firth) it will give you an idea of where we went and what we saw. Tselmeg, the son is exremely intelligent and tech savvy, and I’m sure that by now all their camera traps in the mountains will upload the photographs via satellite to Tselmeg’s laptop. This will provide up to date intel on the movements of the local Snow Leopards.
We can recommend them unreservedly.. Their contact details are in the Report. Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve, I will check out your report, I think I might have already ready it. I was looking at Tum-Eco tours, but their website isn’t available.

I reached out to them and I haven’t got the email returned to me yet though, so maybe it is just a temporary problem.

      Thanks for the suggestion.
