Advertising: Northern White-cheeked Gibbon Expedition in Vietnam, April 6 – 9 2026

This April, Next Continent will be running a short expedition to see the critically endangered (and highly sought-after) Northern White-cheeked Gibbon. This is a tour we run irregularly due to the incidental nature of this species, however after several recent trips by our team and some of our colleagues in the community, we are planning this trip for early April.

This will be a 4D/3N trip that will commence on 6th April 2026. It will be limited to approx 6~ participants.

Itinerary:

  • The tour will depart from Ha Noi and travel to the Son La province of Northern Vietnam, approximately a 4hr drive. On the first day, we will arrive, check into your homestay accommodation, have lunch, then spend the afternoon with the local trackers and community members who live alongside these animals and if we’re very lucky, we may even see them on our first afternoon! Overnight at Van Ho.
  • Day 2-3 will more-or-less follow the same schedule, which will be up very early, travelling out to the key locations around the nature reserve, looking and listening for the gibbons. With any luck we will have a nice clear visual on day 2, which we then can improve on through day 3. There also may be opportunities for spotlighting in the area which we will capitalise on bonus mammals/birds if appropriate weather and conditions.
  • Day 4 will be our final morning at Van Ho and we will hopefully have encountered this gibbon on a few occasions by now. After a final morning, we will return to Ha Noi concluding this short trip by late afternoon / early evening.

Notes:

  • This will be an all-inclusive tour (covering all transport, accommodation, logistics, etc)
  • The homestay accommodation is modest, but comfortable and includes all basic amenities
  • This tour will include all food and drinks
  • Including in your price is a small donation towards the conservation efforts currently being undertaken by the local community and rangers

Pricing:

We are aiming for a full group of 6x participants. However in case we fall short of selling out our group, the below explains the cost per person depending on group size.

  • 3-4x PAX: $830USD price per person
  • 5-6x PAX: $690 USD price per person

Bonus Extension:

For those interested in capitalising on rare primates whilst on a short visit to Vietnam, we can add a fifth day on visit Ninh Binh and see the Delacour’s Langur and possibly Assam Macaque the day after returning to Ha Noi.
