Palawan and Calamianes Mammals and Birds

I visited the Palawan faunal region with my father and sister in November 2025, including trips to the islands of Busuanga and Culion for the endemic squirrels there. In total we saw around 30 mammal species, including the Culion Tree Squirrel, a species that to my knowledge had never been photographed before.

    Hello Daan,
thank you so much for this incredibly cool and informative trip report! Unfortunately, some of your links seem to be broken (e.g., to your observation.org observations and some of the point locations) – would be great if you were able to fix them! Thanks in advance.

Great report Daan! Thanks for this. And definitely a contender for a 2025 NUTTER award (it was still 2025 in a few countries when you submitted it)

Thanks everyone and especially Claudia for letting me know about the links. I’ve edited the post and changed it for the correct PDF that does include correct hyperlinks. I do not see anything anymore in the post now, but I believe that is as it should be as it has to be re-approved by Jon?

Ah I see that it has updated with the correct pdf and including hyperlinks! Happy new year everyone! I’ve started off well in Belgium with 13 species so far, including my 52nd observation of European Wildcat

Fantastic report, Daan. Yet another area that should be higher on people’s radar than it currently seems to be.
