I am going to Ethiopia for 2 weeks; renting a 4WD with driver/guide; planning to camp every night to facilitate spotlighting/scoping but might use the odd hotel/lodge. Route will include Bale Mts – Harena – Yabello – Lake Awassa – Senkele – Wondo Genet – Awash – Aledeghi. Email me if you are interested in joining.

You might want to change Wondo Genet for Bishangari lodge, which hosts more or less the same birds (yellow-headed parrots and narina trogon guaranteed) and night walks here yielded a caracal on the lakeshore, as well as senegal galago, common genet, bushbuck and common duiker. Aardvark and spotted hyena also appeared to be very common here. Unfortunately the Bishangari lodge was attacked during the protests last year, but it appears to be open again.
Bishangari is still closed and is expected to be closed for some time yet as it was burnt to the ground during the protests. It needs a total rebuild.
That is a shame, the first pictures I saw did not look that bad…. Hopefully they can open again. Do you know whether the lodge next door is also affected?
No Haro Lodge wasn’t attacked and is still operational.
