PSA: Caution with Flashlights over marshes

I had a horrific experience this evening. Perhaps more experienced members are already aware, but I shinned my light over a marsh to see if anything was active and a large commotion began with ducks taking flight. One of the ducks flew into a tree branch and crashed to the ground. As I looked at the duck on the ground to make sure it was OK, a second duck came flying in right at my face. I had to make a quick move to avoid it hitting me. It landed harder than I would have liked on the road behind me. It may have thought the dark road was water. In any event, I do not plan to shine power lights over open marsh water again as I feel horrible for having caused this disturbance to the ducks. Something to keep in mind out there.
