Florida (USA) – mammal report

Sharing another report, this time from Florida last December: 6 nights & 21 species including Big Cypress and Sherman’s Fox Squirrels, Golden Mouse, Oldfield and Florida Mice, Florida Bonneted Bat, and Southeastern Myotis.

    Thank you so much! I am just planning a family trip to South Florida. Did you consider visiting further north west of the Big Cypress Reserve?

      As far as I know, most of Big Cypress N of the 41 is proper wilderness with difficult (or at least time-consuming) access. Turner River Rd might be an option, but I’m afraid I don’t know what species are likely there. Outside of BCNP, the Janes Scenic Dr in Fakahatchee Strand seems well worth a visit, with chances of Black Bear, River Otter, and with a lot of luck – ‘Everglades’ Mink and Puma.
