Singapore Stopover September 2025

A very brief trip report from a short stopover in Singapore where I got to do an evening spotlighting walk and an early walk in the Botanical Gardens.

Didn’t have my camera with me so no photos this time unfortunately.

I started the evening with a brief walk on the perimeter of Rifle Range Nature Park (as with most parks in Singapore, no access into the park after 7pm).

On the way to the park stopped to look under a couple of freeway viaducts and saw several Lesser dog faced fruit bats and a small colony of Cave Nectar Bat.

Once at the park had great views of three Sunga Colugo, a Rajah Spiny Rat and several Black (Norway) Rats.  Observed Long-tailed Macaque on way into the park.

Also observed a Brown Boobook hunt and devour a small skink.

After Rifle Range went to Upper Seletar Reservoir Park, mainly looking for herps.

Observed 10+ Sunda Colugo, including some in flight and 3 Javanese Flying Squirrel feeding on a fruiting palm tree.

Saw 7 species of frog, 2 Oriental Whip Snakes, 7 or 8 species of freshwater fish and a Large-tailed Nightjar.

Before heading off to the airport the following morning did a short walk in the Botanical Gardens where I observed Plantain Squirrel, Slender Squirrel and Common Treeshrew. All found in the rainforest section. Apparently, the rainforest section is a reliable location for treeshrew.  Didn’t have time to try but was informed that Symphony Lake in the botanical gardens is currently a reliable location for a family of otters in the late afternoon.
