Coming Soon to Mammalwatching (maybe): Lost Species List, a New Member Recruitment Competition and the perks of becoming a Contributing Member

Hello everyone

If you follow this site, or listen to the mammalwatching podcast, you will know that we’ve been thinking of ways to help grow the mammalwatching community and increase the conservation and scientific impact our community is having.

There are some exciting ideas afoot. At least I think they are exciting. I suspect ‘exciting’ is not the first word my daughter would use to describe them.

Here are just two of them.

We will soon launch a competition to encourage you to recruit new mammalwatchers. The more members you recruit, and the more engaged they are, the more points you will earn. And there will even be a prize! Exciting right?!

We will also – very soon – be unveiling a list of 25 lost mammals in the hope that some of you will be inspired to go rediscover them. An adventure will be guaranteed. Those who are successful will see their names go down in mammalwatching history AND I hope win a prize. More on this very soon. Also exciting!

We have many more ideas. Unfortunately they all require money to implement.

To help fund some of these new ideas, and the continued running of the site, we are considering introducing a paid membership feature. The current content of the site will always – at least so long as I have anything to do with it – remain free. But we are thinking of offering contributing members some extra benefits (see the survey for more details).
