Update from Trip to Look for Hirola in Tsavo East, Kenya
Hi everyone
Just a quick update from my trip to find Hirola in Kenya.
First: I did find her in Tsavo East. Thanks for the tips last spring.
Here are some additional things to consider if anyone else want to go. A full trip report is coming in the future
1. Look for a guide beforehand ( we did, thanks for the suggestion ). Most of the locals guides we meet on the journey didn’t even know the Hirola exists. Our guide was Hemed ( hemediddimukui@gmail.com )
2. Hit the road as long as possible. You can drive the park roads again and again. We saw our Hirola at a road we past one hour earlier.
3. Get a lodge inside the National Park so you can start earlier and don’t waste time by getting in and out.
4. The Hirola is related to the Hartebeest, but looks more like the local form of the Grant Gazelle. In fact our animal was in a group of 5 Grants. So focus on them and check the Grant Gazelle groups.
