The Weekly Recap

Hello and welcome back to the weekly recap!

This week we are starting off with Michael Wright’s amazing encounter with a Black-footed Cat (named Brutus) at Khoisan Karoo Conservancy, South Africa. He has shared a link to some beautiful photos and videos of it trotting away.

He has also posted about how much thermal scopes help mammalwatching, with reviews of both the Thermal Master DV2 and the Pixfra Sirius S650LRF. He’s had amazing success using these on the Sustain Safaris Rare Mammal Tours he runs, so check those out if you’re interested!

Next is the report of a Royle Safaris trip to the Western Sahara back in January. Despite it being a little quieter than recent trips, they still saw 14 cool species including Fennec Fox, African Golden Wolf and Sand Cat.

This report by Alex and Jeanette Schouten of their trip to Eastern India and Bhutan features 14 great primate species, like Capped Langur and Stump-tailed Macaque, as well as some lovely and expressive photos of them!

My dad’s report from Kenya includes 51 great mammals with highlights like Mountain Bongo, Welwitsch’s Myotis and Nyanza Serotine. It also includes much fraternising with birders, but for the sake of his reputation we’ll say that was out of his hands. Although when have I ever cared about his reputation…

A first time poster, Daniel Dahan, has shared a great introductory post that includes a short report of a new site for Yucatan Spotted Skunk he found in March.

Nick’s Adventures Bolivia are launching a new Ultimate Mammalwatching Tour: 2 weeks spent looking for mega mammals, focusing on cats like Jaguar, Puma and Jaguarundi as well as Bolivian Pink River Dolphin, Giant Anteater and more. So if any of these namedrops tickle your fancy, come along! The first trip will be running in July 2027.
