Kinkajou or Olinguito?

Hi everyone,

Last summer, I spent three weeks in Colombia, including three days at Mirador El Roble hoping to spot a Northern Oncilla, unfortunately without success.

Besides seeing 156 bird species, I was also lucky enough to spot some interesting mammals, including a Stump-tailed Porcupine, a Black Agouti, and a Kinkajou.

During one evening at Bosque de Niebla in Valle del Cauca, I spotted two different species of procyonidae. The owner told me that the first animal (the one with the banana) was a Kinkajou, while the other one, which was climbing high up in the trees, was an Olinguito.

I’m really curious to hear your thoughts on these sightings. Do you think the animal in the second and third photos is indeed an Olinguito?

Thanks so much in advance for your help, and happy mammal watching!

Greetings from the Netherlands,
Ian Kneepkens
