Sulawesi and the Molucca Islands

In July 2026 my fiancé and I spent 3 weeks in Sulawesi and the Molucca Islands. This trip was primarily a mammal photography trip, with herping and a smidge of bird watching in between.

Amazing report! Glad to see you got to see the togian babirusa, a few tarsiers species, blue eyed cuscus, etc… organizing it yourself and with great success. The pictures are stunning and it looks like you form a fun cooperative team with your partner for these trips! Well done and looking forward to more of your reports!

Thank you! The mammal watching forum and community have been intrumental to quite a few of my trips!

And yes! My fiance is just as obsessed with wildlife photography as I am. Our next big trip will likely be West Papua and or Costa Rice for the international bat conference 😀

PS. What camera, lens and general settings are you using?

Hey Craig, thanks for the kind words! I use a Canon R6. The lens’ I use include the 200-800mm RF, Canon 100mm macro, and Tamron 24-70mm. These are call combined with an off camera flash with a diffuser. Settings are quite variable pending the environment and look I’m after. The bat in flight shots are bit complex, but I pair my camera with a high speed motion sensor and five flashes.

If you’re interested in more, my friend and I run workshops in Borneo, Sri-lanka and Nepal.
