“Amazing Azores: The Sequel”, or “In the wake of the Giants”

Please enjoy this trip report, in which me (Seva Rudyi) and Kristin Van Gaever went back to the Azores in March-April 2026 to try and see migrating baleen whales. The trip exceeded our expectations, with multiple quality sightings of Blue Whale, and other species, including Sei Whale, Humpback Whale and Azores Noctule.

Hi Seva, great report. It was a pleasure meeting you guys in Pico and sharing the experience of seeing breaching humpbacks and especially the sei whales. My son and I enjoyed our two trips with EspaçoTalassa very much, as you said, great organisation and ethical standards. We definately should have done more than 2 tours, as we missed all the blue whale action. Next time.

Thanks, Marcelo! It was a pleasure meeting you too, and you’ll see that Blue Whale in the future eventually!

Thanks, Jon! It’s an incredible place for sure. Maybe I’ll be back eventually – I feel like it has great potential for dedicated whale watches.
