Asking advice for mammalwatching in the Vosges region in France
Dear Mammalwatchers,
This August (2026) I will be going to the Vosges region for mammalwatching with my dad. We will be staying at Gérardmer. There are a few things that I would like to know if someone has some advice or suggestions for a few things. We will be focussing on hiking/walking and going on night drives.
- Does anyone know or have a reliable spot for the dormouse species (Edible Dormouse, Garden Dormouse & Hazel Dormouse)? I would love to see any of these three (or all three). If there will not be anyone that could help us for a reliable spot we will try to hike/walk suitable habitat at night with my thermal, would this be a good strategy?
- Does anyone know a good spot for bats in the Vosges region (a church where they are known to roost during the day for example)?
- If there are some more tips for mammalwatching or locations that we should check out they are more than welcome!
Thanks in advance!
