Flying squirrel in Finland

This May I’ll be in Finland. Is there anyone that has good info on whom to contact to find flying squirrels in eg the Lieksa /Kuhmo area. I know further south has more options but it won’t fit the itinerary. Thanks in advance.

Hi. Not sure how close you want, but we did a trip back in July 2012. Dad says that the lodge we stayed at was this one https://bearcentre.fi/ (under their old name “wild brown bear”). They arranged a trip for us to look for flying squirrel which I think was ~150€ for 2 people back then. That lodge is about 50mins north of Kuhmo.

Thank you Ben. Been to that lodge three years ago. I’ll check with them if they know about squirrels being around. They seem to roam so maybe not around 14 years later 😀.

    Hi,

In Kuhmo, you may find it in Riihivaara Natura2000 nature reserve, also in Ulvinsalo nature park, and in Elimyssalo nature protection area Flying squirrel be found at large aspens forest in Härkövaara.
The Riihivaara area is closely connected to the Elimyssalo nature reserve.
