Foxes in the Caspian Lowlands

Found these foxes in the Caspian Lowlands of Kazakhstan. They were very slight (though these are 4 well-grown cubs at the entrance to their den) with large ears and striking black tear marks. Corsac can safely be ruled out as all had large white tail tips. But are they desert form Red Fox or are they Rueppell’s Foxes? The latter supposedly only occur as far north as the Caspian Lowlands in the far northern part of Iran and have a whole country between that and where I saw these but then that is Turkmenistan whose mammal fauna is likely not well known. I’d love to hear comments – Red Fox of Rueppell’s?
