Join me in Thailand in July 2026
Hi everyone!
I am looking for one (maybe two) people to join me on a mammalwatching trip to the south of Thailand for 14 days at the end of July 2026 with Wild Encounter Thailand (the itinerary is inspired by Jon’s trip last year: https://www.mammalwatching.com/community-post/thailands-deep-south-banded-linsang-and-more-2025/):
Day 1 / 18 Jul : Airport pick-up and transfer to Sai Yok National Park (3-4 hrs drive), check-in to the hotel.
[Start of Service]
*Arrival time is unconfirmed yet, but if we have time, we can do afternoon bird watching.
**Hopefully you will arrive in the morning or before lunch time.
Overnight in Sai Yok district, Kanchanaburi
Day 2 / 19 Jul : Morning to the Kitti’s Hog-nosed Bat with at least 2-3 additional species of Bat in the cave of Sai Yok National Park.
Once we have done with the cave by half of the day we will transfer to Don Mueng International Airport (4-5hrs drive)
Then catch the night flight to Hat Yai International Airport
Overnight in Hat Yai Signature Airport Hotel
Day 3 / 20 Jul : Half day caving for an endangered Pendlebury’s Roundleaf bat and head straight to Chulabhorn Pattana 9 Village.
Check-in and we will start spotlighting after dinner.
Overnight in Chulabhorn 9 Village, Yala
Day 4-9 / 21-26 Jul : 6 Full days of spotlighting for Banded Linsang and other nocturnal mammals in Chulabhorn Pattana 9 Village
for Banded Linsang, Sunda Slow Loris, Common & Masked Palm Civets, Small & Large Indian Civet, Banded Civet, Mainland Leopard Cat and other rodents
*We will try rodent trapping here
**We taking harp-trap to the south is not easy but our trip lead say we will work it out and see how it goes (no promise)
Overnight in Chulabhorn 9 Village, Yala
Day 10 / 27 Jul : Drive to Narathiwas province after late breakfast, we will stop at the Cave nearby Yala town for Diadem’s / Boonsong’s / Kunz’s Bicolored Roundleaf Bats.
Check-in and rest.
Overnight in Sai Tharn Thong Resort
Day 11-13 / 28-30 Jul : 3 full days in Hala-Bala Wildlife Sanctuary (Headquarter Side)
for Spotted-winged Fruitbat, Malayan Slit-faced Bat, Dayak Roundleaf Bat, Least Horseshoe Bat, Great Wooly Horseshoe Bat, Agile Gibbon, Siamang and a few species of squirrels.
*Again we will try rodent trapping here and if possible bat trapping
Overnight in Sai Tharn Thong Resort
Day 14 / 31 July : Check-out after breakfast and transfer to Narathiwas Airport to board the flight back to Don Mueng International Airport and later transfer to Suvarnnabhumi International Airport to board the flight back to your country.
[End of Service]
Main target will be Banded Linsang with a nice cast of additional targets. (As this is a very customized and super flexible tour, we have the option to change any itinerary program or even the location if we’ve got any target we want and we will move to other places in very high pace to get the most of the species out of the tour***)
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to simon0189@hotmail.com for pricing or any further questions.
Cheers
Simon
PS: Following the above itinerary I’m planning to spend another two-ish weeks doing some self-guided exploring (most likely including one or two whale watching trips for Eden’s whale, Germain’s Langur at Klet Kaeo, a trip to Laos for Laotian Rock Rat, etc.). Still working on the details but if someone is interested in joining/continuing on after the guided tour that would be an option too.
