Mammals of the Spanish Pyrenees and around Zaragoza

Doing this self guided trip next week in search of Wallcreeper and Lammergeier amongst other birds, but would be interested to hear any suggestions of places along the route for mammal watching. Thanks

Are you interested in any mammals in particular?

    Possibly don’t have time to
look for small rodents or bats. But very interested to see any other mammals other than Rabbits and Grey Squirrels.

In that case you are lucky because Grey Squirrel doesn’t occur in Spain!!! Following the points given in your map, night drives could be productive around points B and D.

That’s good then, thanks for the info, I will give them areas a try, and let you know if I see anything

This is rather low below the mountains, so the birds – wallcrepeers and bearded vultures – move to these altitudes in the winter? Because in summer, I would be looking for them much higher in the mountains, but in winter – especially this super snowy winter there – the mountains will be difficult to access. The most interesting mammal in the Pyrenees by far in my opinion is the desman, but I have no idea how to look for them in winter as they do not occur in the lowlands at all. I have seen a genet last July just hiking at night around Barcelona.

The Riglos and Alquezar have Wallcreepers and Bearded Vultures overwintering until April possibly. I will be driving further up towards Astun.
