Mkomazi, Tanzania – best areas for gerenuk and oryx

Hi all

A couple of weeks ago I spent two days at Mkomazi failing to see gerenuk and fringe-eared oryx. I will be giving it another go on the way back up north. Can anyone suggest the best areas for these species?

Keen to stick to trying here as we pass right next to it on our way back.

    If you’re going back to Mkomazi I would try the Kavateta area for Oryx. Gerenuk could be anywhere, but I’ve had luck with them in the north-eastern section of the Park on the road towards Kamakota hills. Good luck!

    We had much more success this time. Over two days we saw 3 gerenuks and had about 10 sightings of the oryx and a similar number of less kudus. The latter two species were incredibly timid though and the sightings were brief.
