My Big Cat Year – A brief visit to South Africa for the Black-footed Cat and Cheetah
A brief visit to South Africa for a chance for the Black-footed Cat … A tiny cat that had slipped away in January, a 750-kilometre drive into the vast Karoo, and three nights of night drives racing against the clock — this was going to be anything but an easy mission. The Black-footed Cat is one of the most elusive little cats on earth, and finding one means chasing it in the open under a Karoo night sky.
In 6 days, we managed to see 41 Mammals, 96 birds and 2 reptile species.
The Big Cat Year is not just about spotting wild cats. It is also about habitat and wildlife conservation. The aim is to support a project/organization in every country visited. With regard to South Africa, we will make a contribution towards Khoisan Karoo Conservancy.
