We saw Snow Leopard, Brown-Bear, Eurasian-Lynx, Pallas’s Cat, Tibetan Sand-Fox, Himalayan Wolves, Tibetan-Gazelle, Tibetan Argali, Tibetan WildAss, Whollyhare and Ladakh Pikka and many more during the 3 weeks trip Oct-05 to Oct 25 -2024.. Photos are below the page.
A trip report from Phunchok Tsering MD OF Exotic Travel Ladakh: A local tour operator organised tour for French Photographer David Allemand from Oct, 05 till Oct 25 2024, During this trip we Covered Drass Kargil for Brown Bear from 06 Oct – to 09 Oct,
Oct, 05 – 2024, David arrived from Delhi after resting for acclimatisation we went for Ladakh Urial but no luck so we went for birding and saw Ibisbill, solitary snipe, Golden Red-start, white-browed tit warbler, Overnight Leh.
Oct – 06 – we went to Drass 270 km from Leh and 6/7 hrs drive we did evening session for Brown – bear and saw the Bear from far distance, evening came back with our vehicle and stayed in HomeStay.
Oct – 07, we went early morning with our spotter Tashi and Ahemad a local spotter who knows the areas very well . we saw the Bear from 20 /30 meters as we were walk uphill for some 30 minutes after the drive of 40 minutes in our vehicle. After spending some 30 minutes we came back as Bear was going back towards his areas after night feeding in some others areas .
0ct, 08/09 – we went Mushko Valley in the morning and did saw the Bear almost everday but from the distance of 150- to 800 meters in the morning and evening we went Mushko valley and towards the other valley near army camp we did saw the bear but always from distance.
0ct – 10 – 2024 , we came back to Leh evening we went for the Ladakh Urial area we saw both male 2 adult male and a 10 female Red- sheep. Overnight Leh.
Oct – 11 – 2024 , we Hit the road towards Hanley Plateau it is 260 km from Leh but only 5/6 hrs road as road is good with no pass. We did evening session and saw wild Ass, red – Fox, and Pikas and vole. Overnight Hanley.
Oct – 12/13, Both days we went early morning towards La – Pahari means red -Hill to see the pallas’s Cat, we fortunate to see the Pallas’s Cat from some 50 meters she was hunting on the ground and Tibetan Sand Fox from 20 meters, we came back to Hanley for lunch both days and evening search for Tibetan Wolves and Sand – Fox, we saw both the species but from distance specially the Sand – Fox was very shy and was always on run whenever we stop for the photo. We also saw some good and rare birds like Tibetan Sandgrouse, Tibetan Lark, Tibetan Partridges and bland-ford snow-finches, hume’s ground tit, and snowfinches etc… Overnight at Local HomeStay.
Oct – 14 , we went for the Tibetan Gazelle and Argali towards Norbu La and kalak-Tartar, we saw Gazelle at Kalak tartar area from some 300- 400 meters and we manage to see Argali as we went other side of the valley for Argali. Came back in the evening to Hanley . Overnight Hanley.
Oct – 15, we came back to Leh and late evening went to market for some shopping and stayed in the Hotel.
Oct- 16 ,, we went to Rumbak one hour drive from Leh and we start scanning for the Snow Leopard. We saw some blue sheeps on the slopes and evening came back at our HomeStay.
Oct – 17 to 23 , During our week Stay in Rumbak we saw the Snow Leopard only two times , one in the morning and second in the late evening but both the sighting from the far distance. Our morning routine starts from 6:30 we scan for the 2 hrs as morning and as the Cat is more active, We manage to see the Eurasian Lynx from Yurutse valley again from 600 /700 meters and pack of 03 Wolves at Choksti valley.
