Summer Mammal Watching in Romania
Hi Colleagues! I strong chance I will be in Romania this coming July. I would love advice to some mammal watching options there. I would love to do the naked mole rat safari but it is surely the wrong time of year… Chamois? Marmots….any small rodent locations of note? Bears? I would love to pick some brains!

Bears are virtually guaranteed if the transfagarasan is opened. If it’s not fully opened you probably will still see them. Bears come within meters of cars as they are looking for handouts. Deadly attacks have happened along this road as bears get too comfortable with people. And people with the bears. July/August is high-season though, so it can be very busy along this road as it is a popular destination. High altitudes along this road has alpine marmot which you have to look for, but you will probably find. Chamois are present, but rare here.

Hey, as lived in romania for some years… Dont know If your preference is Nature / hiking + mammal watching or pure mammalwatching by Car etc
I saw bears everytime when i was around bucegi nationalpark..
Some chamois and marmots as well.. Same for piatra craiului… Beautiful hiking in that area.. If your want to watch by Car pretty sure others are better in helping Out. ” Bear guarantee” should BE around lacul sfanta ana .. but i was never there
