Trip Report – Borneo’s Rare Mammals Tour – Royle Safaris – Aug/Sep 2024
Royle Safaris runs a specialist mammalwatching group trip to Sabah annually and they never disappoint, however this particular one hit the jackpot. Guided by Mike Gordon and visiting Deramakot, Kinabatangan and Tabin (as well as an extesion to Tawau Hills) this trip resulted in 57 species of mammals, 120+ species of birds, 15 species of reptiles and 5 species of amphibians.
But it was the impressive haul of 4 MEGA MEGA MAMMALS of Sabah which makes this one of the most successful mammalwatching trips to Borneo of all time.

Borneo Mammalwatching Tour – Sun Bear
These mega mammals were Sunda Clouded Leopard (perfect views of a large male), Sun Bear (actually many sightings, including an extended sighting in the day of two together), Sunda Pangolin (incredible views) and less good views but nice sighting of an Otter Civet!

The attached trip report has more pictures as well as further description of the trip and what other amazing animals were seen. For anyone interested we will once again be running the trip in 2026 (our 2025 trip is now full) and we have limited availability for 2026. So if you are interested in visiting Borneo to try and see some of these species and others, then just send us an email (info@royle-safaris.co.uk) or visit our website (www.royle-safaris.co.uk).
