Trip Report: Snow Leopard, Pallas’s Cat, Saiga Antelope in Winter

I’ve always wanted to see a snow leopard in the wild and what’s a snow leopard without snow? We contacted Bolormunkh from Snow Leopard Tours Mongolia, a brilliant guide who has got quite a reputation in the eco-tourism circles over the years. He was game to do a private trip for a small group of us, with the main caution being the harsh wintry conditions that we’d be faced with.

What an incredible journey it was! Sightings of 7 snow leopards, a pallas’s cat at the most unlikely location, and lots of other animals that looked great in the snow! We didn’t really pay much attention to the birds but saw quite a handful of palearctic species as well, and inadvertently got excited seeing how Bolormunkh (he’s an avid birder) was thrilled to spot them during the trip!

The conditions were quite tough but we felt safe throughout – even my 70-year old dad negotiated the undulating terrain well in the frigid weather!

Hope you enjoy reading the report in the attached pdf!
