    Hey Robert, great report!!
Are we sure that genet is a giant genet?
I thought it was never-before recorded in Uganda,

Sorry – for some reason there’s no water to update my own comment, and i accidentally pressed “post comment” prematurely.

OK, I meant to say that it hasn’t been recorded in that area of Uganda, and it’s considered a super-rare species.
Is there a consensus that the genet in the picture is, indeed, a giant genet?

I enjoyed running thru the list of species in this nice report. Yes, congratulations of seeing that golden cat. Looks very much like a Rusty-spotted genet to me—Genetta maculata. There are no validated records for Galagoides demidoff for Kibale or Bwindi. Likely that, of the dwarf galagos, you only saw Galagoides thomasi…which is common in Kibale.

Thank you so much for your interest in this report and sorry for this very late response. I agree regarding the genet. The pdf for the trip was revised accordingly and should be uploaded in place of the original. The Mammal Checklist of Uganda National Parks at p. 23 indicates that both Galago demodivii and G. thomasi occur in the Kibale Forest. I would have pasted a copy of that in but was unable to. Certainly they had very different eye-shine. Many thanks again for your comments, Robert
