Wood Buffalo National Park suggestions??

I may have a chance to drive through Wood Buffalo National Park in late July or early August.   It’s an enormous park, and while it has amazing potential, a lot of that seems to a little difficult to access.  A recent BBC documentary filmed wolf hunting buffalo there, but the behind the scenes episode, and the web site showed that it required a fixed wing spotter plane, helicopter, multiple teams and even so, lots of luck (BBC One – Frozen Planet II – Getting eye level with the wolves hunting bison).  But one can drive from Hay River to Fort Smith through the park, and I think there are some roads inside the park.  So I am wondering if driving the roads is likely to produce any sightings.   Recommendations for other parks or mammal watching sites in NWT or Alberta also welcome.

    Hi Nathan,
In my opinion the best wildlife spotting in that part of the world is along the Alaska Highway, particularly the stretch through Stone Mountain and Muncho Lake Provincial Parks in Northern BC. It depends on what you are hoping to see and how much time you have. Earlier in the summer would be better, but I realize your dates may well be set. You are welcome to contact me at ibtson@yahoo.com if you would like to discuss further. Regards, Ian Thompson
