Long Beaked Echidna in Australia
Its fun to dream… but I think the chances that this is a mislabeled specimen from New Guinea are much more likely than the chances of Long Beaked Echidnas roaming NW Australia.

a mislabelled specimen was my initial thought when I heard about this a while ago, but in fact the specimen is well-documented (albeit largely overlooked) and the chances of it being the result of a label mix-up are virtually nil.
Abstract of the paper is here (it is an open-access journal, so on this link you can also get the whole paper on pdf etc): http://www.pensoft.net/journals/zookeys/article/3774/abstract/modern-occurrence-of-the-long-beaked-echidna-zaglossus-bruijnii-in-the-kimberley-region-of-australia
