Greg,
I was just at Mount Rainier this past Sunday, the 31st. I did the Skyline Trail hike as well. I had similar luck as you with the marmots and Golden-mantled ground squirrel. On our way out we got lucky and drove right by a Black-tailed deer. Happy we both got to check the Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel and Hoary Marmot off our lists!
I agree that the Skyline Trail is a top destination to go mammalwatching. When I was there I was lucky enough to see a Long-tailed Weasel (https://observation.org/observation/177611622/) and many Townsend’s Chipmunks in addition to these species. If one is in the neighbourhood, I can also recommend to go to the eastside of Mt. Rainier to take the Huckleberry road. There is a similar species composition there, with the addition of lots of American Pika’s and a few Mountain Goats. I did not see these latter two species at the Skyline trail.
