The Mammalwatching Website: Did you know you can ….

Hello everyone. Quite a lot of new subscribers and joined mammalwatching over the past few months so I thought it might be a good moment to welcome those who have joined and run through some of the sections on the website that not everyone might be so familiar with.

Hopefully everyone already understands that there is a Community Forum where we post trip reports, RFIs and more, and that the Places link will help you reach separate pages for most countries along with US & Australian states and Canadian provinces. Each page is a library of links to trip reports and more. This is the place to start if you are planning a trip.

If you are looking for a guide or tour operator then you can visit the Trip Provider page. These advertisers get the finer points of mammalwatching. Or if you want to look for a ready made trip to join then check out the Join A Trip page, which lists tours that have been advertised as well as posts from people looking to form their own group.

Some of the many trips currently on offer include

Ecuador for Spectacled Bears, with Jan Kelchtermans & Starling Tours, Jan 17 – Feb 1 2026

Primates & Parrots of the Brazilian Amazon, with Wildwings, May 9 – 23, 2026

Bonobos in the DRC with Middle Africa, September 2026

The Horn of Africa with Royle Safaris, December 2026

As well as trips with me to

The Gear page has reviews and discussion about books, apps, and optical gear including thermal scopes.

If you would like to share your mammal lists you can enter different categories in the Mammalwatching Rankings. If you are not feeling competitive then why not chill with the Mammalwatching Podcast.

Last, but definitely not least, here is some information on the ways in which mammalwatching is helping conservation. Something we plan to expand over the coming months including putting a spotlight on some of the world’s ‘lost mammals’ that I believe this community can find if we put our minds to it. More on this soon I hope.

Hope this is useful. If anyone has suggestions on how to simplify the  website structure, or ideas for new information or features that we could include, please do let me know.

cheers

Jon
