The Weekly Recap

Hello and welcome back to the weekly recap!

This week we start off with a great trip report by Charles Foley from Tanzania! Despite the tumultuous political atmosphere, he saw over 75 species including Black-and-rufous Sengi, Rondo Galago, Kipunji and Striped Leaf-nosed Bat.

Marc Bozon has shared his exciting plans for a Big Cat Year in 2026! Check out the post to watch the great video he’s made about it – not only will it be a lot of fun, but he’s also aiming to raise money for conservation along the way. Definitely go visit his website and sign up to his newsletter to follow his progress:)

There is a last minute opening on a Naturetrek cruise through “undiscovered Indonesia” this coming February. It sounds like quite the epic adventure – daily snorkeling through coral reefs, whale watching and even some …birdwatching… are all included!

And this late August Royle Safaris trip to West Papua still has a couple of places to fill. Led by the one and only Carlos Bocos and with target species like the Western Long-beaked Echidna, Long-fingered Triok and New Guinea Jumping Mouse, it’s safe to say it is a guaranteed adventure.

Both of these trips and many more are on the join a trip page. Go take a look if you’re feeling bored, full of wanderlust or have forgotten to take your medication today.

“Atolve” is asking for recommendations for a springtime (april/may) mammal trip and is open to anything, so let loose! My personal recommendation would be a trip to the asylum. I’ve heard it to be a popular place for mammalwatchers at all times of year.

The thermal master DV2 camera is still available in the US where it is on sale until Christmas, but now sold out everywhere else. Check out this post if you want to snap one up or to see the other Thermal Master gear still on sale!

And finally… the number of “tickable mammals” has gone up to 6721 thanks to some mammal heaven-sent taxonomy updates! Given that it was at 6645 a year ago, this is great news for all of you fanatic listers out there (which I know to be most of you…) so be sure to update your life lists as an early Christmas treat 😉
