The Weekly Recap

Hello and welcome back to the weekly recap!

This week started off with Coke Smith’s report from Laos. He gives some useful details on travelling there overland from Thailand, and he saw some great species like his target Laotian Langur, Laotian Roundleaf Bat and Variable Squirrels.

Next is this general report of summer in Minnesota from Moses Swanson, with species like Coyote, Eastern Deermouse and Muskrat!

Petter Bohman has posted about the mammal streak he did last year in Sweden- the goal is to see one new species a week for as long as possible. He got to 49 weeks, ending on December 7 with a European Hare – a very impressive streak if you ask me! It’s a really fun idea, I just hope my dad doesn’t get any ideas from this post as just the thought of losing his Wordle streak keeps him up at night…

My dad’s report from Patagonia and Buenos Aires is all about his recent quest to see the Leopard Seal, a most wanted mammal. He was successful with a very smiley looking seal, and also saw a Pichi, Huemul and Southern Elephant Seals, to name a few.

This report from Taï Forest NP (Ivory Coast) by Samuel Marlin was very successful, with 23 species including the mega rarity Pygmy Hippo as well as Tree Pangolin, Western Chimpanzee and Diana Monkey.

A couple of very fruitful layovers in Panama got Yonathan Perez 27 species (13 of which he saw during just one evening’s spotlighting!) like Northern Tamandua, Rothschild’s Porcupine and Central American Tapeti, as well as some lovely photos.

And the final trip report is Hugh Lansdown’s from Indonesia, with Horsfield’s Treeshrew, Javan Rusa and Malaysian Field Rat.

As always there are a couple of new trips up for joining! The first is a search for the Northern White-cheeked Gibbon in Vietnam with Next Continent in April, and the second is a Himalayan Brown and Black Bear Expedition with Ursus Expeditions in May. If neither of these tickle your fancy there are many more on the join a trip page!

Guillem is planning an 11 day mammal trip to Ethiopia in April and is looking for some general advice – one species he’d like to find is the Ethiopian Wolf.

And finally… A new pocket guide has been published… to the Primates of Southern Africa! Check out the post for more information and to download it.
