Contacts to local guides around Chapada Diamantina, Brazil?

Hi there,

We went fairly spontaneously for a few days to Chapada Diamantina in the North-East of Brazil.

I know that several fascinating mammal species occur around here, including three-banded armadillo (Tolypeutes tricinctus), southern tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla) or blond titi monkey (Callicebus barbarabrownae).

I have family in the area and been here several times over the years, but “only” got to see black-tufted marmosets (Callithrix penicillata) in terms of wild mammal species. Non of the relatives here were not even aware of some species here, i.e., the blond titi monkeys, and the guides also cannot help: Thus, I appreciate any contacts to local guides that I could hire to see some of the mammal species.

As potentially relevant information: I speak Portuguese and have a car/ am used to drive around here.

Thanks in advance!

When are you going? I just got back from there and saw all the endemic porcupines and primates plus the armadillo etc. Myv report should be out before the end of June and will have guide contacts. Can you wait til then?

Yes Cristine is definitely the person to go with! I got the blond titi.with her close to Lençóis and she told me she monitor a very good site for the armadillo, although not close to Lençóis.
In the region, you could also contact Thalisson Ribeiro, based in Mucugê although this area seems less promising on the mammals front (but maybe due to a lack of exploration)
