Advertising: 2 Vietnam tours: mammalwatching & primate photography, with Next Continent, early 2027

Next Continent is pleased to announce two specialist mammal expeditions for 2027.

Both tours will travel across Vietnam in search of some of the country’s rarest and most endangered mammals, but each has a very different focus.

One is designed for serious primate photographers (16 species), with extended time in the field to achieve the best possible photographic results.

The other is for dedicated mammalwatchers and listers, with an ambitious target list, extensive spotlighting and a determination to find as many species as possible. For some context, our 2026 mammal expedition recorded a whopping 65 mammal species (a result we’re hoping to build on in 2027!)

Vietnam’s Endangered Primates: Photography Portfolio Tour
10–24 January 2027 | 15 Days

This expedition is designed specifically for serious wildlife photographers who want to build an exceptional portfolio of Vietnam’s endangered primates. We’ll be targeting more than 16 primate species, including Vietnam’s spectacular douc langurs, gibbons, slow lorises, macaques and several of the country’s rarest and most threatened monkeys. Unlike a conventional mammalwatching expedition, this tour is entirely focused on primate photography. There are no distractions or attempts to maximise the overall mammal list. Instead, we’ll dedicate our time to finding our target primates and achieving the best possible photographic results. Our approach prioritises extended observation, favourable lighting, natural behaviour and the flexibility to revisit locations when conditions aren’t ideal. We want participants to return home with a genuinely outstanding photographic portfolio rather than simply a long list of sightings.

Wild Vietnam: Rare Primates & Mammals Expedition
21 March – 4 April 2027 | 15 Days

This is our flagship expedition for serious mammalwatchers, and we’re going all out to find as much as possible! Travelling from southern to northern Vietnam, we’ll be targeting an enormous variety of mammals, including endangered and endemic primates, squirrels, civets, pangolins, bats and numerous other elusive forest mammals. Expect early starts, long days in the field, extensive nocturnal spotlighting, thermal scopes, visits to bat caves and plenty of time in some of Vietnam’s most exciting mammalwatching locations. This is a very different experience from our photography expedition. Our priority is maximising the species list, pursuing difficult targets and making the most of every opportunity in the field. Following our successful 2026 expedition, which produced 65 mammal species, we’ll be refining our approach and incorporating additional locations and targets for 2027.

Both expeditions will be led by Next Continent’s specialist Vietnamese wildlife guides, with small groups, carefully planned itineraries and a strong commitment to ethical wildlife watching. If you’re interested in joining either expedition, please feel free to contact us directly. We’re also happy to answer questions about target species, photographic opportunities, logistics or the differences between the two tours.

We hope to see some of you in Vietnam in 2027!
