North American Mammal Checklist
Hey all,
I’ve made this checklist of regularly-occurring North American mammal species that is free for anyone to use to track your progress at seeing all of the North American mammal species: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HhufqrnRuq4BCWoG152ILDhzce3_eGCLQuwVO0J3abw/edit?usp=sharing
For this purpose I have defined “North America” as equivalent to the “ABA area” that birders use, meaning essentially the US and Canada.
I welcome any feedback on how to improve this list to make it better, but I’m especially wondering about feedback on the following things:
-Taxonomy: I was trying to align the list with ASM but there are no doubt some taxonomic changes in small mammals that I’ve missed.
-Infrequent mammal species: Jaguar and some marine mammals feel like slight edge cases. Are they worth including?
-Introduced species: Seemingly just about every hoofstock species ever is claimed by some sources to be somewhere in Texas. I included only those introduced species which I felt I was confident are actually out there. Is there any which are actually present which I seem to have missed?
Anyway, thanks in advance for the feedback and I hope some people can find this resource useful.
