We took a short trip to Leuser Ecosystem with SUMECO, based in Bukit Lawang, 3 day hikes and 2 night hikes, saw 10 mammal species.

Hi Flemming, you are right, SUMECO is different with regular tour companies in Bukit Lawang, that’s why I recommend SUMECO. The lead guides was professional, while we also had 2 or 3 assistants, who were still learning. We did both regular trail from Bukit Lawang and wild trails from different areas into Leuser.

Thank you for your report Zhou, I am thinking about doing a trip with SUMECO as well this year.
SUMECO seems to be different than other companies operating from Bukit Lawang.
Did the guides seem professional to you? And did you get to go into the real Leuser ecosystem from Bukit Lawang or were it mostly wide trails?
