The Weekly Recap
Hello and welcome back to the weekly recap!
This week we are starting off with this report/guide from Skyler Kardell about how to find the famous Beach Vole on Muskeget Island, Massachusetts.
Next up is Chris Townsend from WiseBirding’s report from a trip to Bolivia last August. It features a total of 38 species with highlights like Puma, Jaguarundi, Crab-eating Fox and Black-faced Spider Monkey.
My dad spent a weekend in Florida with Charles Foley. They saw a few species, the highlight of which was the Florida Mouse. But the highlight for me is that the Eastern Spotted Skunk is my dad’s new nemesis species, and caused him and Charles to manage to miss their turn on the longest stretch of road in the entire country with no exit… A new story I am delighted to add to my ongoing list of his most epic fails (which includes the likes of falling asleep on a water slide and driving a rental car off a ledge). So be sure to gloat in the comments if you have seen one of these skunks 🙂
And finally is the next installment of Marc Bozon’s ongoing Big Cat Year! From Morocco and the Western Sahara, he got some great species like Lesser Egyptian Gerboa and Afro-asiatic Wild Cat despite missing his difficult target, the Sand Cat.
Sebastiaan Bosma is looking for some mammalwatchers who’d be up for accompanying him on some low budget trips in Europe and North Africa from October onwards.
Zac Babbit is asking for some advice for a road trip from Spain to Slovenia this summer. He is most interested in bats and rodents, but some non-bat targets include Iberian Lynx and Western Polecat.
Finally, Coke Smith has shared a case study he made for Khao Yai NP, Thailand. Documenting not only mammals but all flora and fauna, it is incredibly detailed, full of the usual stunning photos, and an amazing resource for anyone travelling to the area.
