Trip Report – African Golden Cat Expedition – Royle Safaris – May 2025

This is a report from a small group tour that we ran in May 2025 to Uganda, along with the usual parade of mammals (particularly primates) which are often seen in Uganda the main focus of this trip would be the enigmatic and ghostlike African golden cat. We would be going on the now quite well known locations in Kibale and Bwindi for this species with a great local team. So by driving the roads here and using a unique technique (based on previous attempts) that we pioneered for this trip, we were successful in two sightings of African golden cat (that the group had) and a third sighting that as the local guide only. The only problem being that these cats seem to be allergic to having their photographs taken.

In addition to the wonderful African golden cat there were many species of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians also seen, including 14 primate species and a total of 60 mammal species.

Uganda is a wonderful place to travel around and when on safari in Kibale, Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi National Parks you will not be disappointed in the wildlife on show. Of course no trip to Uganda is fully complete without visiting the Mountain gorillas or Chimps and both of these primate experiences were added by our clients to the trip.

We are running this trip in 2027 if you are interested and you can contact us at info@royle-safaris.co.uk for more information.
