Trip Report – Laos & Northern Vietnam’s Rare Primates Tour – Royle Safaris – November 2025

In November 2025 Royle Safaris was back in Laos &  Vietnam (some of our favourite destinations) for a specialist tour for Cheryl Antonucci and Judy Parrish. The main targets were Lao Langur, Tonkin Snub-nosed Monkey, Northern White-cheeked Gibbon, Northern Pygmy Slow Loris and Cat Ba Langur. And we were remarkably successful with all of those targets hit and not just seen, but with great sightings of all species.

As well as these species we were successful in seeing some of the rarer seen species in the area including some nice bats such as Griffin’s Roundleaf Bat, Allen’s Roundleaf Bat, Indochinese Whiskered Myotis and Hairy-footed Flying Squirrels and Phayre’s Flying Squirrel.

The trip was very focused on our targeted primates and we didn’t go out at night very much, but we still managed to see 20 species of mammals recorded, 81 species of birds and 4 species of reptiles (including some very range restricted species) and also a very cool looking Vietnamese Mossy Frog. Making this a very successful trip overall for Laos and northern Vietnam.

Our next trip to Vietnam will be in April 2027 and we have places available for that trip, that small group tour is focused on the endemic primates from south to north. For anyone interested, just get in touch with us.
